Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron
Allison Stokke, born in Newport Beach, California on 22 March 1989, is among America's most famous and wealthiest Pole Vaulters. She became a pole jumper in 2007 following a photo of her at an event at the age of 17. Instagram and Twitter are her most popular social networks. She is well known for her track and field performance, similar to Jessica Ennis Hill. Los Angeles Times and others noted that Stokke did not seek or seek out such the attention. Brett Hutchins and David Rowe in their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society linked Stokke in the context of American soccer player Alex Morgan and Hope Solo Female athletes that they said were sexualized and had their public images presented in a manner as to de-emphasize their sporting accomplishments. They also noted that Stokke's comments on social media tend to be insulting, and attribute the sexualization of the situation to the female athletes. Many of the comments drew comparisons with Brandi Chastain's performance at 1999's FIFA Women's World Cup Final celebration wearing a sports bra where the achievements of women were overshadowed because of discussions about their looks. Images of Stokke performing in New York in early 2007 were captured by a reporter for a Californian track and field website and placed online. The image was then posted by With Leather a sports blog that has a huge male audience commenting on the beauty of seventeen-year-old Stokke under the headline Pole Vaulting is Sexy Barely legal. Matt Ufford, the owner of the site which the photo was published on was threatened with a lawsuit by the photographer if the picture wasn't removed. The article did however receive lots of interest from other sites and the picture was widely shared. Stokke owned a website specifically dedicated to her, with photos of her at the pole vault. When these images spread across social media, they were viewed by thousands. Alyce Caron..............Alyce Caron was born in Houston in the United States in February 1957.
