
Hanks was seen with Ron Howard in his next roleas the commander and astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). The film's performances , as well as Kevin Bacon's portrayal were favorable by the critics. The film was nominated for nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Later in the year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. In the following year, he made his directing debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) which chronicles the rise and decline of a popular 1960s group. Hanks also played the role of a producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and the majority of critics agree that Hanks performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of the current generation.
